Berlin & Beyond

Cine+Mas SF is co-presenting the German-Argentine film THE DAY I WAS NOT BORN- official selection of this year’s edition of Berlin & Beyond Film Festival It screens October 23 8:45 at the Castro Theatre.

About the film:
During a stopover in Buenos Aires, Maria recognizes a nursery rhyme. Though she does not speak a word of Spanish, she remembers the lyrics vividly. Two days later, her father Anton shows up at her hotel, confessing that: Maria spent her first three years of life in Buenos Aires during the military dictatorship of the 70s. She was adopted and brought to Germany. Father and daughter begin a journey in search of Maria’s biological parents — with Anton doing all he can to regain his daughter’s trust.

Free Tickets Blackthorn

We invite you to a pre-theatrical release screening of “Blackthorn” at the Landmark Embarcadero Center on October 11 in San Francisco. It stars Sam Shepard, Eduardo Noriega, and Magaly Solier (La Teta Asustada/Madeinusa). Directed by Mateo Gil – know for films like Vanilla Sky/Abre Los Ojos (both of them) & Sea Inside (Javier Bardem). For tickets email us at programming @ sflatinofilmfestival.com  Please provide your name and phone number and the number of tickets 1 or 2.  We’ll hand you the ticket at the screening. Look for us- holding up a “Cine+Mas SF” sign. The film opens on October 14th.

Closing

We close up the festival today with an encore screening of the fun, festive and colorful documentary LA SALSA CUBANA by Eric Joseph Johnson and Sarita Streng.  2pm at the Brava Theater in the Mission. Tickets are available at the door. $10. We’ll have a meet-up at El Rio for Salsa Sundays. Thanks for coming out!

After the screenings today, there’s a party organized by: Eric Joseph Johnson, director of “La Salsa Cubana”. Party and reception for La Salsa Cubana at ODC Dance in the Mission district, 9pm – midnight, Sept 17, after the screening of the film, with casino style salsa dancing and Cuban Music. Dance performance by the Bay Area’s RUEDA con RITMO. ODC Dance Commons, 351 Shotwell St. (between 17th and 18th streets). FREE!!

Filmed in Oakland! The story is about two young Mexican-American guys who lose their jobs (partly from laziness partly from the recession), and their home (due to the rocky climate

September Film Programming Update

Our programming team has been screening, discussing, arguing and carefully deciding on the final few films that will makeup the official selection for our film festival, which kicks off September 15th.

If you’ve submitted a film, hold tight. You will be notified if your film has been selected. We received an amazing crop of film to choose from and we’re very excited about reporting our selections soon.

The development team has been ironing out community partnerships and will also be reporting those and exciting new additions to the festival’s dynamic.

Jeremy Ray Valdez at SF Pride

Jeremy Ray Valdez

Jeremy Ray Valdez is a rising star that  gained notoriety for his role as Jesse Rivera, a young gay man struggling to come out to his butch  father  played by Benjamin Bratt in the hit film, La Mission.

Valdez won the 2010 Imagen Award for best supporting actor for his work. He was also recently in All She Can an indie pic that screened at the Sundance Film Festival.

He is currently working on his newest film titled, Dreamer, a feature narrative drama about an undocumented young man whose life falls apart after his employer discovers his immigration status.

Don’t miss his appearance in the SF Pride Parade.
