This year Mexico is celebrating 100 years since the Revolution and 200 years since Independence. In recognition of these historical events, we’re proud to be screening a couple of iconic Mexican films recognized for both their stars and their enduring appeal:
Distinto Amanecer / Distinct Dawn directed by Julio Bracho, one of Mexico pioneer and distinguished filmmakers, was one of the first films that depicted urban Mexican life. Screens: Sept 17 @6PM. Doña Barbara stars Maria Félix. This is a western set in Venezuela with Felix as a tough rancher using men and amassing wealth. Felix was recognized for her beauty, her acting career, and her bombastic persona. Screens: Roxie Theatre Sept 17 @8PM.
